The principle is often said by the majician or the three card Monty player that the hand is quicker than the eye. But that is not the only way to deceive the mark. Sometimes the trick is done in such slow motion that you don’t realize what has happened until it is too late.
My blogger friend, Loopyloo305 of the MyBlog, received an e-mail the other day that she shared with her readers. It’s a story about losing freedom without realizing it. With permission, I have re-posted it below. Please enjoy the story and pass it on.
Catching Wild Pigs
There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the Prof noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter.
The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist regime.
In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question He asked: ”Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke. ”You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. “When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. “You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.” The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America . The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time. One should always remember two truths: 1. There is no such thing as a free lunch , someone pays for it 2. and when you begin to think that having your government provide for you and make your decisions is ok, realize that you’ve also given up the freedom that goes with making your own choices. If you see that all of this wonderful government ‘help’ is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the “free ride” is essential to your way of life, then you will probably delete this email. But God help you when the gate slams shut!

So many Americans today are dependent upon the Nanny State.
Or, like me, have been taxed to the point that we almost have to depend on the Nanny State.
Where does this cycle end?

It will end, AOW, the when it aways ends, when the money runs out. The money has run out. But the liberals are in denial.

Excellent post. I fear where the cycle will end. They have snagged us with Healthcare. Life– the most precious thing any of us have. The quality and quanity of it. They now dangle it in front of us as if it is a toy to be played with. We will sucumb to the fear of it being taken away. Most will vote for the best presentation of who will give us the best chance at it. At the point, the GOP is losing the presentation.

We should all fear how this will end. It will end when China and others decide they don’t want to buy more of our bonds at these low interest rates. If the Fed raises interest rates, hello hyperinflation. If they don’t raise interest rate and we can’t sell our bonds, the US will have to declare bankruptcy. A terrible end either way. If we don’t turn things around NOW, there will be no escape.

This was the goal of moneyed progressives over 100 years ago. Their property and prosperity were threatened by the sweaty immigrant hordes and rough country people crowding the burgeoning cities to work the factories. Throw the hoi polloi some government goodies to keep them from revolting and repeating the French Revolution in the US

And when there is nothing more to keep the dogs at bay, the dogs will turn on each other. Not a pleasant thought.

It is scary how quickly this country is losing its freedom. And even scarier who the public acquiesces in their enslavement.

The Fabians had a plan to destory capitalism bit by bit and they have been very patitient. This didn’t happen over night. But now Obama has put down the accelerator.

Yes, she had an excellent post. It really speaks to the dangers we face in the modern world–people will give up their freedom for comfort and ease, and end up slaves. Kind of reminds of of Pinocchio, where the boys turn to donkeys after partying all night, and then were drug off to work in the mines. The older generation knew some things that we have forgotten.

I agree, John. I place the blame on our education system, which intentionally or not, has done a miserable job of teaching our history and the need to be ever vigilant over our freedoms.

This is a long-term, intentional process. I have to tell you that the sense of entitlement is astounding.

What would help is making everyone pay taxes. But I have a sneaking suspicious that it won’t hit home until this country goes bankrupt. We are raising kids – the product of our great public education system.

Yes. The great American education system. I may write about that on Monday.

A great story and I believe it is spot on. We have been letting the government gradually take over more and more of our lives and we are becoming more and more dependent on the government for things that we should be providing for ourselves and for our familie. I believe with this healthcare legislation the four walls may already be built and next the gate will be shut. I hope we are not too late!

I don’t know if it’s too late, Steve. I believe that time is not on our side. Many on our side of the issues do believe there is time to make the needed reforms gradually by trying to work with the Democrats. Maybe they are right, But I’m not willing to risk my country to find out.I see the liberals ready to slam shut the gate.

Bloody well said and that’s exactly what’s happened in the west, the communist scum of old would look upon their descendants today with envy, taking over without a shot fired.
