The U.S. Senate want’s to legalize government by fiat. Our Senate want’s to make Obama the first American Dictator. At least that is how I see Senate Bill S.679.
S.679, Senate the Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011, would eliminate the confirmation requirement for 200 presidential appointees.
How is that for a good idea? Did you know about this? I didn’t. Is our Senate so over worked that they can’t attend to their confirmation duties? From where i sit, the senate hasn’t been doing much of anything. They haven’t passed a budget in over two years and they’ve absolutely nothing about our debt and deficit crisis. So, how can they not have time to have confirmation hearings? RedState.Com has the story and here are some excerpts:
One would think that without the inconvenient burden of dealing with the budget process, the Senate would have plenty of time to execute its ‘advise and consent’ duties. They are claiming that the confirmation process is too cumbersome and time-consuming, and as such, is precluding other more important legislation. The reality is just the opposite. Their abdication of their core responsibilities has left them with nothing other than executive confirmations on their plate. Senator Marco Rubio succinctly observes the priorities of the Senate in a piece for the Daily Caller today:
Meanwhile, in the five months I have been in the Senate, Democratic leaders have focused on a reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration, a patent bill, a bill to increase spending on the Small Business Administration and a plan to increase spending on the Economic Development Administration, a relic of the Great Society that funnels debt-financed cash to states and localities (never mind that the president’s own Fiscal Commission recommended eliminating it entirely).
The Senate has taken just 91 roll call votes, many on non-controversial nominations, and a third of our time has been spent in “quorum calls,” literally doing nothing. No one should be under any illusion about the desire of leaders in the Senate to confront our sagging economy and looming debt crisis.
Yep! They sure seem to overworked, don’t they? And this will make your day:
The bill has seven Republican co-sponsors: Lamar Alexander, Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Mike Johanns, Jon Kyl, Richard Lugar, and Mitch McConnell.
We call them RINOs. but I think they are really liberal Democrats that ran on the Republican ticket and were supported by Democrats. The different state Republican Committees need to do a much better job of vetting their candidates.
There probably is a need to expedite the confirmation process. The author of the article, Daniel Horowitz, has an idea on how that might be accomplished:
Here’s a novel idea for streamlining the confirmation process of presidential appointees: shrink the size of government so there will be no need for most of these jobs. It’s high time for Congress to halt its self-immolation, and reign in the executive department behemoth.
I think we could all go along with that suggestion. It’s very doubtful, in my opinion, that this will ever get by the House, but maybe it would still be a good idea to let your Senators know that you do not support S.679.
That’s what I’m thinking today. What are your thoughts?

What? The Senate do its job? Perish the thought! next thing, you’ll be asking Obama to cut down on the time he spends playing golf.
The best solution? Throw the whole lot of them out. As far as these so-called RINOs, we should really call them what the are: eunuchs. They think their job is to curry favor with the emperor. The problem is, Obama is not an emperor … yet.

This bill is a total red herring. The Senate wants to give Obama the ability to do even more governance by edict or fiat. But, yes, we definitely need to throw all of the bums out.

A Republic with separation of powers is sooooooo inconvenient don’t you think? Let’s give all the power to one man, preferably one who will bring about the socialist workers’ paradise.

Well, Obama did say that his life would be easier if we had a government like China.

Anything they can do to take away representational government away….and isn’t that a cute name, too! All about “streamlining and efficiency.” The language of the left….it’s all so utopian, don’t you think?? You just can’t argue with “streamlining and efficiency,” now can you? Every day in every way..I imagine the next 18 months are going to be in high gear getting as much of the socialist/marxist/globalist agenda into place before we can get the O out of there.

Yep1 Obama wants to create the United Socialist States of America. When he spoke of hope and change, that is what he had in mind.

Agreed that the Senate is twiddling its thumbs doing nothing and has plenty of time to go through the confirmations. That is what you get when you have a guy like Harry Reid in charge.
And Democrats can’t even use the excuse that Republicans will block the appointments. It only takes a simple majority to confirm and Democrats have a majority in the Senate. Confirmations are a slam dunk for Democrats if Reid would get off his lazy behind and do something.
But instead they propose legislation to reduce the number of appointees that needs to be confirmed by the Senate.
Why?
Since the Senate could easily confirm most, if not all, of the backlog in a single day and they aren’t busy right now then it can’t be to streamline government.
There must be something more than that.
One of the charges leveled at the Obama Administration is that the President appoints unqualified academicians to important political positions to further his idealistic agenda.
Perhaps Democrats fear that Republicans will use confirmations hearings as an opportunity to point out this flaw to an electorate already disillusioned over Obama’s promise of ‘hope and change’ resulting from muffed policy crafted by academic ideologues.
S.679 is a tiny bit like what FDR tried to do with the Supreme Court. It kept striking down his legislation as unconstitutional so he tried to change the rules by expanding the court so he could fill it with appointees that would vote his way.
Just like FDR, Obama wants to change the rules to meet an immediate political objective.
I’m sure Republicans have done the same thing many times as well. No matter which party does it, it is still bad legislation. S.679 will likely have a boomerang effect later on when a Republican is in the Presidency… and then they will want to change the rules again.
Leave the process alone… get off your Senatorial duffs and do some work for a change!

This is the first I have heard of this and it goes without saying that this is very troubling indeed! This president is already circumventing the constitution on a number of issues and now people like Scott Brown are prepared to give him more unilateral power? What the hell is wrong with these people, we need to bring Obama down, not empower him.

From Obama’s point of view, the Supreme Court an the two houses of Congress irrelevant and a waste of the taxpayer’s money.
Come Nov. 6, 2012 we are going to make Obama irrelevant.

Wow, this is straight out of the Road to Serfdom by Hayek, where he warns of the delegation of legislation and authority from the parliament to the “experts”. But, we can’t look to history as a guide for what NOT to do in the future, that is such plebeian thinking.
