President Obama may be the most focused President we have had in my life time. With the real unemployment at 16+% and real inflation over 9% and with time running out on debt ceiling you would assume that Obama has little time to think about anything else. But none of these critical issues can distract our President from his main goal of forcing America’s energy cost, using Obama’s own words, to skyrocket. He and his storm troopers at the EPA are working non-stop to make sure you can not afford to heat your homes in the winter or cool your homes in the summer.
You are all aware, I’m sure, of the EPA’s new rules on carbon emissions from power plants that will cause the shut down of hundreds of coal-fired power plants and drive electricity cost up as much as 20% or 30% in some regions.. Well, Obama and the EPA decided they hadn’t done enough to destroy jobs and punish Americans in general.
Fox News ran this story six days ago and I’ve not seen it reported anywhere else. So, in case you missed it, allow me to bring you up to speed. The EPA has a new rule called the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule, which requires power plants to install more scrubbers to lower particulate emissions and protect states that are down wind. Here is what the EPA has to say about their new rule:
The EPA says the new rule will ultimately protect 240 million Americans in 27 states from smog and soot pollution and prevent up to 34,000 premature deaths, 15,000 nonfatal heart attacks and 1.8 million sick days.
Wow! Aren’t we lucky to have the EPA looking out for our best interest. According to their questionable projections, if you don’t freeze to death in the winter or die of heat stroke in the summer because you can’t afford to pay the higher costs for energy to heat or cool your home, you just might have a chance to live longer, avoid a non-fatal heart attack and, miss fewer days of work due to sickness.
Dear readers I would appreciate it very much if you would let me know if in fact you do live longer or if you have fewer non-fatal heart attacks or if you experience fewer sick days after this new rule takes effect. I mean we really should keep these records so we can verify if the EPA’s projections were correct or not. So, again, please let me know how it turns out and I will be happy to compile the record and I’ll report back once I have a statistically significant amount of data.
As energy cost go up so do the costs of everything else we buy. Also, how many jobs will be lost directly due to the shut down of many power plants and indirectly due to our producers of goods and services not being able to compete in world markets? Do you think that Obama and the EPA care?
But hey, maybe I am sounding the alarm too soon. the Fox News article tells us that our boys and girls in Congress are on top this issue:
The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power last week approved legislation to hold the Obama administration to more transparency for the cost of EPA’s regulatory zeal.
The TRAIN Act, which has some bipartisan support, would require an interagency analysis of all the costs incurred by private industry because of EPA regulations.
Gee wiz! Doesn’t that make you feel better? They are going to give us a commission to look into the “transparency” of the EPA’s cost analysis. That will teach them a lesson, don’t you think?
Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

The curious thing to me is why the EPA evolved into having so much power and is the spear that Obama is using in achieving his Agenda. I guess when the Supreme Court gave it the High Five in regulating the air we breathe, there was no end to it. Still, Congress could cut its legs out from under it. Waiting to hear, Congress…anybody home?

Maybe not so curious. EPA, rather than being disinterested implementer of the the Environmental Protection Act, is very much in bed with environmental activist groups (the EPA hands out grants to these groups like candy). The environmental groups in turn are dominated by Marxist. At least that is my take.

Where are all these grants coming from? Congress must have to authorize this. I know their budget has balloned.

The EPA should have limited power but so should the rest of our government. Congress needs to stand up to the EPA and stop it’s overreaching power. A commission is both a waste of time and taxpayers’ money.

Hi, Teresa. Yes “Limited Power (Size)” should be our motto for the 2012 election campaigns. Our government has been over reaching for years no matter which Party has been in control. The liberals and progressives have done a good job for a long time of electing people who represent their views. We conservatives have not done such a good job. We did much better in the 2010 elections but, IMO, we need to do much, much better in 2012. Here at Conservatives on Fire, I am promoting an all out VOTER REVOLUTION for 2012. The 2012 elections may very well be our last chance to stop the slide into the abyss.

It’s way past time to regulate the regulators. Better yet, let’s return all that regulatory power to the states, where it belongs.

Constitutionally, only Congress has the power to write law. The President can either sign a law into affect or veto it. where did the bureaucrats get the right to create laws (regulations that have the effect of law). IMHO, when agencies create regulations in order to implement laws produced by Congress, those regulations should have to be return to Congress for their approval be foe they can be enforced as laws.
Does it bother you as much as it bothers me that the Constitution is only seven pages long and is the law for all the land. and our Congressman can’t writ a single law that isn’t hundreds of pages long or more. Just wondering…

Obama’s minions, the abortion on demand, Union supporting, Obamessiah worshippers are killing this nation… I took aim on them anew in my blog yesterday…
I have finally reached the stage of utter hatred for all people that are Obama supporting libbers. I have reached the point where I don’t care WHO I piss off in saying so or who I have to be utterly and completely rude to in order to get that message across.
They call themselves *progressives*, and no description could be further from the truth. They are not *progressive* in any way, unless *progressive* is now some kind of code word for ‘America destroying morons’.
They have allowed the most destructive President in American history to do as HE pleases and to hell with America and the American people.
I am fed up with being nice to libbers in my part of the world for the sake of community harmony. Community harmony can go straight to hell if it means having to tolerate the skewed minds of Obama worshipping, Union loving, socialist thugs that support abortion on demand and the baby killers!
Liberalism is a disease. I don’t know if it can be cured but it can damned sure be removed!

Here in NYC the EPA is forcing the city to spend 1.6 billion to place a concrete containment dome on our upstate water reservoirs.
All in the name of safety and preventing diarrhea outbreaks. Meanwhile in a city of 12 million we had 100 reported cases of pathogen-borne diarrhea last year.
Our water rates have risen 96% since 2006 and because of the EPA it will rise more.

That is a great example of government over reach. I guess they never heard of cost benefit analysis. If my math is correct, o.oo8% of NY population is suffering pathogen-borne diarrhea per year. I’m not sure but I bet a few bottles of Pepto-Bismo would be a tad cheaper.

You left out the cover that the EPA is requiring NYC to install over the 90 acre Hillview Reservoir ($1.6 billion+) to prevent chryptosporidium – which has never been found in the reservoir. I give the EPA credit – it is a non-partisan destroyer.

Thanks for posting this; I would have missed it. The scope of EPA’s reach is frightening. Mark Steyn, I think, said that between the EPA and Obamacare Federal government controls everything because everything is either a part of an individual or a part of the environment. So Michelle Obama is telling us if we may it a cheeseburger and the Congress is telling us which light bulbs are kosher. And if Obama decides that the cost of energy has to skyrocket, then be it.

This is Obama’s preferred method of operation. Instead of working through the channels of Congress, following the checks and balances of our system of government, he likes to use the regulatory method. Less scrutiny that way and it’s easier for him to implement his agenda.

I hadn’t heard about this story, thanks for sharing it. These agencies are becoming rogue agencies with a marxist political agenda and they must be stopped. Barack Obama promised to bring down the coal companies and he promised to make energy prices skyrocket and it appears as if these are two promises he is actually going to keep.

AOW, exactly correct. The marxists just decided to run the world after the Soviet Union fell apart. We might have been better off if they had stayed in place. At least the enemy was more there than here….now they are all over us like a rash.
We are also having a serious problem with laws vs. regulations. Our congress has given carte blanche to the President, the rogue agencies, and the Judicial branch to legislate …thereby congress is derelict in its duties and everyone else has run rampant with the tacit permission of the Marxists in charge. In this vein, I have been trying to find out how regulations from unelected bodies are being enforced, when they are not actually laws…such as the SCOTUS ruling on the EPA being allowed to regulate CO2 as a pollutant. This is not from the consent of the governed, but from a soviet system that has been set up in America. Congress did not pass a law outlawing CO2 emissions, but funds the agency that now regulates each cow fart and human exhalation. This same process has now filtered down into the states and localities all over the nation. And that is how Agenda 21 is being implemented…through regulations that have no basis in law. I could go on and on…so frustrating!!
