How dare I question your patriotism, you ask? Look, I do believe that on Main Street America there are Democrats that put their country first. But I don’t hear your voices. You certainly haven’t nominated and elected any such Democrats in many years. We, who put America first, are ashamed of this Democrat President and the Democrat leaders in the House and the Senate.
Be honest with yourselves, my Democrat friends. You watched the same shameful circus in Washington these past few weeks as I did. In the past, in times of crisis (think Pearl Harbor and 9/11 ), Republicans and Democrats were able to put politics aside and work together for the well-being of the country. We are facing a different kind of crisis today, but just as threatening to Americas survival as any attack by a foreign power or by terrorists. Today, because of years of mismanging our affairs by both Parties for decades, we are facing the potential for a total economic collapse like has never been seen before. If this collapse is allowed to happen, it will be the end of America as we have known it.
If you are honest with yourselves, you must admit that there was only one small group of politicians that demonstrated ,in these last weeks, that they put America first. I’m talking about the Tea Party Republicans. This small group put together a bill they called “Cut, Cap and, Balance” and they managed to get the rest of the Republicans to go along with it and in fact the House passed this bill and sent it to the Senate. What happened? Your Democrat President vowed to veto it if it reached his office. Your Democrat controlled Senate wouldn’t even bring the bill to the Senate floor for debate or amendments. The bill was DOA, as your Harry Reid said. And so in the end a meaningless bill was passed to raise the debt ceiling and the markets and the the credit agency, S&P, let us know what they thought. Had some form of the Cut, Cap and, Balance bill been passed, S&P would not have taken the historic action of downgrading America’s credit rating. We should all be ashamed but especially you Democrats should be ashamed.
I know, you are worried about the harm to those that the necessary spending cuts would cause. Well I have news for you. A lot of Republicans in America enjoy those same programs and they too would be hurt. But the Republicans who put America first understand that these programs wer flawed from the day they were made law. Our Republican and Democrat leaders over the last many decades have known full well that these Ponzi schemes were doomed to fail; yet they continued to take the easy way and kick the can down the for some future generation to deal with. Well my Democrat friends, we are that future generation. The end of the road is in sight. The economic viability of this country is teetering on the edge of a cliff and we must take steps to move back to safer ground.
I understand full well that Americans, Republicans, Democrats and, independents alike, are not going to like the medicine that is required to save this nation. But, let me share with you, my Democrat friends, a little known secret. There really is a way, very simple in fact, to make the medicine easier to swallow. Why is it such a well guarded secret? I honestly have no idea. Let me spell it out for you.
The deep spending cuts and the reforms to all entitlement programs that must happen will be much easier for Americans to accept if our leaders in Washington would at the same time take some very simple steps to increase revenues and create jobs and provide an environment for economic growth.
No, I am not talking about raising taxes on the rich or anyone else. Not only would increasing taxes not help, It would further cripple our already weak economy.
There are four simple things our government could do very rapidly that would allow for economic growth to begin again, create hundreds of thousands of new jobs in the short-term,and increase tax revenues for local, state and, federal governments. Here is the secret:
- First, I encourage all who are reading these words to read a recent article by Ed Morrissey at Hot Air. In his article Ed talks about how easy it would be for the Presidendent and his administration to open up offshore and on-shore regions to oil and gas exploration and development. Not just open-up these areas but actually grant the necessary permits, instead of holding them hostage by the bureaucrats. This simple step would immediately create hundreds of thousands of high paying jobs as well as new tax revenue; an, as a bonus, it would help keep a lid on world oil prices. Read the article, please. It is very well done.
- Second, this administration needs to immediately approve the mega-Keystone oil pipeline project from Alberta, Canada to Texas which has languished in the environmental permit quagmire for years. If you are not familiar with this project, please Google it and learn how this project would inject billions of dollars into the American economy, Create hundreds of thousands of high paying jobs for Americans and, how it would increase tax revenues, not only for the federal government but for all local and state governments along its path. It would provide for desperately needed new oil refining capacity here in the good ole USA. The project has already been approved by the House but the Senate has done nothing.
- Third, Our representatives in Washington should vote immediately to reduce taxes on corporations to 20 or even 15%. Currently American corporations are paying the highest tax rate in the world for corporations. Is it any wonder that American businesses find it hard to compete in world markets and are instead investing in other more business friendly countries and creating jobs for the citizens of those countries instead of investing and creating jobs here in America. I recently read a comment at another blog that asked: why should corporations have a lower tax rate than individuals? I don’t know if the person asking the question was a Democrat or not. But, I suspect that many Democrats feel the same way. Please try to understand this, my Democrat friends. Corporations don’t so much pay taxes as they do collect taxes in the form of higher prices for their goods and services that you and I end up paying when we buy these goods and services.
- Fourth, our Republicans and Democrats in Washington should get together and decide to slash and burn the regulations that are strangling the remaining life force out of our business community. Again, the heavy cost burden of regulatory compliance that our corporation and businesses have to pay and pass on to you and I, are making american businesses less competitive in the world. But listen-up please, we actually get hurt in multiple ways, my friends. Not only do we pay the compliance costs in the prices we pay for the goods and services sold by American companies, we also are hurt by the jobs that are not created here at home and when there are fewer jobs, there is little if any wage growth either. You and I lose big time in exchange for some imaginary health or general welfare benefits. I suggest that our congress pas a bill that declares any regulations promulgated after January 1, 2001 be declared null and void. If by accident we find we eliminated a regulation that we really need, it would be no big deal to rewrite that particular regulation.
So, there you have it my Democrat friends. The well guarded secret has been exposed. As you can see there is nothing magical or complicated about any of these four ways to increase revenues and to create jobs and economic growth. I think you will have to admit that implementing these four secret ways to improve our economy would make it easier for Americans to accept the spending cut medicine that is necessary to save America from economic ruin. These measures could be taken next week or as soon as our boys and girls come back from their unearned vacation. There is just one problem. The man who you Democrats elected to be our President, is not going to go along with any of these measures with out a whole lot of pressure from you, his constituents. The man you elected to be our President would rather see our economy go over the cliff, than give up his dream for super high cost green energy. He would rather fan the flames of class warfare than allow the torch of free markets to burn bright and lead us all out of the darkness.
Let me finish with this, my Democrat friends. We conservative Republicans elected a number of America First Republicans in 2010. And, we are going to elect many more in 2012. Hopefully one of them will be sitting in the White House. But we America First Republicans could use some help from you Democrats. My question to you is this: when are you going to elect some America First Democrats? Think about it, would you?
Okay, dear readers, I’m through talking to the Democrats. No, I don’t think my discourse will have any impact on them; bu, I felt I had to try. Chalk it up to a foolish old man grasping a straws.
Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

I think that many of them have been intimidated by the progressives. There are a few that speak out, but it is just a few. The others either don’t speak at all, or go along!

Funny how the “progressive” wing of the Democrat party is given a pass from the accusation of being radical and the tea party is thumped in the press constantly. The progressives are far more radical–wanting to fundamentally transform this country–than the tea party, which wants only fiscal restraint, smaller government, and adherence to the Constitution.
The progressives think they’re smarter, wiser, and more compassionate than the rest of America, yet their programs (higher energy costs, stagnant labor market, higher prices due to regulation and taxation) harm the poor and middle class far more than anything a free market loving tea party member would ever come up with. In fact, tea party ideas will actually help the poor and middle class by providing the one thing progressives never provide: opportunity.

Great post Jim. The same plea should also go out to union members who have watched their union leadership cozy up with socialists and communists. The truth is most of these members fear losing what they got more than the fear of change the status quo. I’m afraid this is how it is with most of the people in America and it will take more pain before those who are somewhat rational on the left wake up. The President doesn’t really care if we go off of a financial cliff because in order for him to fundamentally transform America he needs to take away one of the things that separates us from the rest of the world and that thing is our free market system. Think about all he has done, all his actions, from over regulation, the EPA’s attack on the energy industry, printing more money, bailouts, take over of private industry, and so forth are direct assaults on the free market. Now he wants a tax increase. He wants to suck more money from an economy that is already on life support. If the democrats you are making your case to can’t see what this administration is doing to America with their draconian polices then they never will my friend. It will take more pain unfortunately. The sad thing about all this is this pain is a self-inflicted pain that can be avoided if we follow the steps you highlighted in your article.

I don’t know if the four steps would let us avoid the pain, but they would go a long ways toward easing the pain. Thanks, John

democrats certainly put America first on their priority list, the screwing over of America that is.
“No, I don’t think my discourse will have any impact on them…”
It won’t because they’re not interested in creating jobs or taking the country further, they’re only interested in turning America into another socialist toilet in the image of Europe. Never mind that socialism has failed everywhere in the world and europe is just about gone, liberals in America want to give it another chance.
It’s almost as if failure and mediocrity is the actual objective.

If the Democrats and lefties could be made to understand that fundamental truth, we’d be in so much better shape.
Instead, they keep electing Chuck Schumer, Steny Hoyer, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. They absolutely refuse to understand reality or math (but I repeat myself).

First read your article and thought it was great, good job. Even more than the article I enjoy the fact you can comment. Having seen a few democrat ran sites they make it easy for themselves to state their rhetoric but make it impossible to comment on it. I guess they like the Keith Olberman approach to commentary. That is in a lot of ways what democrats have become though, the controled thought party, they do not open the doors for debate as much as they seal them shut using any other tactic to ward off critics. That is why I shutter the thought to ever conscider using the word liberal to ever describe a democrat. Keep up the great posts.
