It’s Sunday with The Bard of Murdock

The following poem was originally published by The Bard of Murdock on Friday, Stember 30, 2011. Be sure to read the article lik provided by the Bard, before reading the poem.

The Great Reformer

In the pantheon of stars,
Next to Jupiter and Mars,
Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin
Stands the Great Reformer, Nelson.
From his perch upon the Hill
Nelson wields his deadly quill,
Reigning in the biggest spenders,
With the verdicts that he renders.
Nelson scoured government,
And to our great wonderment
Found a cut he could deliver
In his subcommittee quiver.
Those who fight abuse and waste
Will have eight percent erased
From their yearly allocation
With his latest reformation.
Though the agency can earn
Eighty dollars in return
For each dollar allocated,
Nelson finds them antiquated.
Cutting those who seek out fraud
Might be seen as deeply flawed
Were he not a top performer,
Senator and Great Reformer.
Other Senator Ben Nelson posts:
     Senator No

My Photo

My goal is to produce poetical cartoons. I try to use metaphors and caricatures (or a politician’s own words) to address complex political and social situations. In this way, I sum up current events in humorous verse.
