An Honest Politician
Article link: Retiring Politician Says ‘The People Have Gotten Dumber’
.
The voters now are dumber
Than those who came before.
And every reelection
They prove it even more.
.
What with their IQs falling
The herd came out to vote,
And kept me here in office:
Their congressman of note.
.
With ever better margins
They sent me back again,
To regulate the country
With other lesser men.
.
For all my time in Congress,
And every year I served,
Those mindless district voters
Received what they deserved.
.
But now as I retire
I find that I am free,
To call the voters stupid
For reelecting me.

Profile

- The Bard of Murdock
- My goal is to produce poetical cartoons. I try to use metaphors and caricatures (or a politician’s own words) to address complex political and social situations. In this way, I sum up current events in humorous verse.
Another good one! I saw the title and expected to find a blank page 😉
“For all my time in Congress,
And every year I served,
Those mindless district voters
Received what they deserved.”
Now, that makes you feel real good about democracy. Unfortunately, the man is right.
It is a sad commentary on both politicians and voters, isn’t it?
