“Looking Forward” a poem by the Bard of Murdock

It’s Sunday and today’s poem from The Bard of Murdock pokes fun at this administrations concepts of recovery. He published the poem originally on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Please be sure to read the article linked by the Bard before reading the poem.

Looking Forward

It’s just around the corner!
It’s just around the bend!
We think that our economy
Is almost on the mend.
Look past those monthly figures!
Look past the latest trends!
We’re watching as adversity
And unemployment ends.
It’s just across the mountain!
It’s just beyond the rise!
The One for this democracy
Has won the Nobel Prize!
So stay with our agenda!
Be calm! Let’s stay the course!
And don’t let mere insolvency
Disturb the labor force.
And when, in this election,
We garner four more years,
We’ll implement autocracy
And soak the financiers!

My goal is to produce poetical cartoons. I try to use metaphors and caricatures (or a politician’s own words) to address complex political and social situations. In this way, I sum up current events in humorous verse

  1. Shucks… the economy is fixed… the President assured us it was back in July of 2009.

It is just that there is more work to do… and then there are those pesky “headwinds” caused by Europe, the tsunami, Republican obstructionism, businessmen who didn’t create their businesses, both George Bushes and Mitt Romney… to name but a few.
