Government Lying To Americans _ A Proud Tradition

For the better part of two weeks, America has been treated to a continuous stream of lies and cover uups over what transpired in Libya and Egypt and why it happened. The spin doctors were working over time to convince America and the world that the attacks on our embassies and the murders of our Libyan Ambassador and three of his staff was nothing but a spontaneous reaction to some You Tube video insulting of Islam.. In spite of this administrations best efforts, along with a compliant  media to protect the reputation of The Leader From Behind, the story came unraveled in short order. And, although the administration finally admitted that the attacks were well planned and organized attacks, The Leader From Behind went before the UN General Assembly and continued to apologize for the disgusting video and making sure the world knew that the American government did not condone such disrespect for the religion of Islam.

We’ll get back to the Libya mess in a moment. As today’s title says, our government lying to its citizens is a proud tradition. I¡m no scholar of our history; but I would venture to say that FDR lied about the causes of the Great Depression, why we were entering the war in Europe, and about what our government knew in advance of Japanese plans to attack and why our pacific fleet was caught flat-footed in Pearl Harbor. John Kennedy didn’t tell the truth about the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Lyndon Johnson led incessantly about the war in Vietnam. Richard Nixon, well he had to resign for lying. I know from personnel experience here in Venezuela that the peanut farmer from Georgia is a liar.  Bill Clinton, G.W. Bush, and the Leader From Behind? All accomplished liars.

Sometimes our government lies to us for good reason. Sometimes, for reason of national security, some things must remain secret. However, we should always be skeptical when our government keeps the truth from us. The need for secrets is often abused.

Okay. Back to the current mess in Libya. The administration’s cover story about the video didn’t hold up. But, don’t doubt for a moment that spin doctors are not still hard at work to come up  with a plan to protect The Leader From Behind. This morning Yahoo News is reporting

When gunmen struck the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11 of this year, the response from American officials was almost simultaneous: They immediately set about collecting information about the attackers, some of whom were quickly identified as foreigners, and tracing links from them to known extremist groups, a knowledgeable source has told Yahoo News.

Interesting, isn’t it? So, don’t be surprised if in plenty of time to influence the elections, that there will be some drone attacks in Libya and people will be killed and The Leader From Behind will announce that we have killed the leaders of those that attacked our embassy and killed our people. He will explain that the video cover story was necessary so as not to let the bad guys know what we knew. America will then know that The Leader From Behind was on top of things all along. We can not let the man off the hook. There are many questions that deserve answers. Why were our embassy personnel without protection? How did the terrorist know about the “secret” safe-house? And, there are many more questions.

Also, yesterday and today the news is abuzz over the arrest of the anti-Muslim video maker,  Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. It has been reported that Nakoula is a Coptic Christian. Most conservatives see this arrest as nothing more than harassment of Nakoula for his exercise of his right to free speech. But, there may be more to this story. It may be that the man’s name is not Nakoula and he may vot be a Coptic Christian at all. It may be that he is a Muslim radical and made this film for the purpose of using it to rally the ignorant people into demonstrating as a cover for the terrorist attacks. I think you would find this story by Walid Shoebat very interesting. We have no way of knowing if Mr. Shoebat¡s accusations about Nakoula are true or not. But, I would recommend that The Leader From Behind reconsider his position on water boarding. We need to know what Mr. Nakoula, or whatever his name is, knows. Wouldn’t it be nice to know the truth for once?

Well, now you know what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

      1. I just thought the media was Obamas personal story writers. We are on a “need to know basis” and apparently we are not intelligent enough to know the truth. That is IF he wanted to tell us the truth to begin with, which he doesn’t.

      2. He kind of stepped in it this time. It was so obivious that this was a planned attack that even the Left Stream Media called him out. Gut, no worries. The faithful Mr. Clapper will take the fall for him.

  1. The Administration is no longer suggesting the Libyan killings were the result of the video. They have concluded it was preplanned by an Al Qaeda faction in eastern Libya.

It is clear, however, that the video was used as an excuse throughout the Muslim world for protest and violence.

It isn’t and never was about the video, but rather an expression of dislike for U.S. policy and actions in their world.

I kinda think the Administration isn’t lying so much as it is incompetent in its reaction to the event.

It is probably a no-win situation for us no matter what any Administration had done.

The 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is one of the greatest treasures we have brought to the world. It transcends all countries, nationalities and religions. People everywhere fundamentally understand that is something they wish they had.

The United States needs to more clearly emphasize that it is an issue of freedom of speech… nothing more and nothing less. President Obama did a pretty reasonable job of explaining that at the United Nations the other day while walking the political egg shells littering that world body.

  2. For some reason, we seem to think that killing via drones in much of Africa is an o.k thing. The problem is that we are killing as many civilians as bad guys. These are acts of war. What if another country was dropping over here? I suggest that we are fueling these flames and we need to get a handle on it. Obama needs to tell us what is going down. More lies coming our way.

  3. All governments lie, that is true, even though some do as an extensive and basic part of their power play – as we have now, while others do obligated by national security concerns and for the national interest, elements which are sometimes not too clear – as in the case of George W. Bush. As far as I can tell by the record, George W. Bush was one of the straightest Presidents we ever had. It is unfair to throw him indiscriminately among the real professionals of lying like our “Leader from Behind” and Bill Clinton.

That said, the precursor and warning sign of a breakdown of a free society usually comes when there is a breakdown in the 4th power – the press. The 4th power is an essential element of control and exposure of the other three powers of government. It is essential for keeping the people aware and informed. That is the power that has now broken down in America. There is nobody to expose and denounce the abuses of the other three powers. The Press has been corrupted and it has taken sides. It is no longer free.

    1. John, the only good thing I can say about Bush is that he did lead from the front and not from behind. He lied to America when he said the only way to protect our rights was to take some away and then he pushed the unpatriotic Patriot Act down our throats. Also, I find it hard to believe that our intelligence was so totally wrong about the WMD’s in Iraq. But, i could be wrong about that.

We use to have real journalist in this country. They were not graduates of left-wing journalism schools. But, they knew how to write well and that had an inherent distrust of government and politicians. They were skeptics in search of truth.

      1. Jim, Bush did not lie to us about WMD of Saddam Hussein, he only gave us the information of our Intelligent Services. As President that is exactly what you have to do. 3/4 of all Democrats and Great Britain and France believed that to be true. Bush would have been impeached if he had try to hide and lie about the real causes of the Libya Terrorist Act and the killing of our Ambassador.
Nixon got impeached for lying – where nobody was killed, much less our Ambassador.

  4. Some interesting theories there Jim, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama orders drone attacks and tells us he has killed those responsible because there is no way we will ever know differently. The theory on the film maker is interesting as well. All I know at this point is that I don’t believe a word that comes out of Barack Obama’s mouth.

    1. So, they are taxing us to death AND telling us lies, sounds like the perfect Government, doesn’t it? We should vote them in for 4 more years!!!!

  5. You are correct in saying there are some things the government does not need to make public and common knowledge. Security concerns are the primary reasons for that. What the Obama administration has done is to lie to us to cover their political backsides. That’s inexcusable.

    1. There is a BIG difference there, isn’t there Larry? Keeping us safe and then telling us after the fact, is almost acceptable. I could almost give him a pass on that one. However, a lie to cover his own butt is NOT trying to keep us safe. As I have said before, WE as a nation are guilty of putting this man (term used lightly) in office. If we put him back in another 4 years who else can we blame? It is just so hard to believe that anyone other than a “benefits recipient” would ever pull the lever for him again. He will be the downfall of a great nation if he stays in office.

  6. Yemen is home to al-Qaida’s most active branch and the United States is the main foreign supporter of the Yemeni government’s counterterrorism campaign. The government on Tuesday announced that al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader in Yemen was killed in an apparent U.S. airstrike, a major blow to the terror network.

  7. I wrote an entire comment on this blog the other day before I accidentally erased the darned thing with my clumsy thumbs and fingers on the laptop touch-pad. Anyway, here is goes, again with the touch-pad disabled.

Like you, I get angry with one of our leaders is obviously equivocating about a given situation. The best liar of a President we ever had was Bill Clinton, but he didn’t do anything consequential, anyway. Well, maybe if you exclude the first recorded event in history of sex in the oval office, during working hours. Some really horny guys have occupied that office.

Sometimes, I try to put myself in their place, answering questions at a press conference. If a reporter were to ask a question about a confidential matter, or secret operation, I would have to consider whether to reply or not. Most of the time, I would probably say, “No comment”, or ” I cannot comment on that subject”. However, if it were something like Fast & Furious (the media will not ask about this one), or some personal peccadillos, how should I answer that if I don’t want to get into more crap? It’s a tough job. These guy have a tough job.

I think the problem starts because they feel they should know more than the citizenry. It comes with being a lying politician. Our job is to keep them honest. It would be easier if the media did not lie.

  8. The most inept of them all are our own government. How could they fall for the propaganda that somehow this filmmaker is guilty of ‘inciting’ hatred? Why do they never point out that the muslim clerics, media, and leaders are the ones who are guilty? That they cause incitement that leads to immediate harm? Why is our media all willing to be fooled by this propaganda, and reprimand us for not being ‘responsible’?? Americans are literally falling over themselves to accept the blame and somehow please the Muslims. This arrest only shows how Muslims not only successfuly attacked us on 9/11/12, but have been able to convince us that it is our own fault.
