Obama’s Racist Approach to Education

It’s no secret that poor blacks and Hispanics living in our inner-cities do worse in   school on average than white and Asian students. America’s first black President is very much aware of this and he has a plan to resolve this problem for blacks and Hispanics. Maggie. of Maggie’s Notebook fame, explains.

Obama’s first step was taken last year when, by Executive Order, he created a new czar to head up his  White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans. Hmmm. I guess the Hispanics were an after thought. Maggie links an article at Judicial Watch that fills in some of the details.

The idea is to provide the support that will enable African American students to improve their level of educational achievement through rigorous and well-rounded academic and support services that will prepare them for college, a career, and a lifetime of learning.” The new black education czar, David J. Johns, will work to identify evidence-based best practices to improve African American student achievement from cradle to career, according to an announcement issued by the Education Department.

Of interesting note is that the administration is actually paying states to set new academic achievement targets based on race and income, with lower goals for black, Hispanic and poor kids and higher ones for whites and Asians. Washington D.C. became the first American public school system to adapt the new race-based standards last fall. A federal education official explained in a mainstream newspaper that the administration is just “trying to be realistic about what’s achievable.”

So, Mr. David J. Johns will work to identify “evidence-based best practices”. What is Czar Johns’ plan?  Another Judicial Watch article has the answer.

In a first for any American public school system, education officials in the District of Columbia have set new achievement targets for students based on race and income with lower goals for black, Hispanic and poor kids and higher ones for whites and Asians.

Washington D.C. officials are simply following a national trend implemented by the Obama Administration, which is paying states to adopt different education achievement goals for different groups of children. The administration is just “trying to be realistic about what’s achievable,” according to a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) official quoted in the mainstream newspaper that reported the dramatic shift in policy this week.

Besides D.C., more than two dozen states have set special academic targets for different groups of students, which the news story points out represents a sea of change in national education policy that for years prescribed blanket goals for all students. Evidently, the Obama Administration believes this new approach will speed achievement for black, Latino and low-income students.

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? The Obama administration is paying (you are paying) states to lower the standards for blacks, Hispanics, and the poor and to raise the standards for whites and Asians. In other words, by making it easier for blacks and Hispanics to score well on their tests and harder for whites and Asians to score well on their tests, we will somehow have more equal results. HOW INSANE IS THAT? Does our President and his Czar really believe this is the way to go? Apparently they do.

In what universe does it make sense that a less rigorous education for blacks, Hispanics, and poor children will help them to “speed achievement”? Since when did dumber become better? Your humble observer at Asylum Watch thinks Maggie has a much better solution to this very serious problem:

If schools are not equal, the truth to be faced is that most well-qualified teachers do not want to teach in dangerous neighborhoods among poorly qualified teachers. Fix that problem. We are a nation held hostage by dangerous children and unions. Police trying to rid neighborhoods of gangs are stopped cold by judges or local laws. Clean up the neighborhoods and put those tattooed freaks behind bars so that other children can use their schools to learn to read and write and do basic math. Teachers will come. Clean up the Teacher’s Unions and get rid of the blathering, slang-spewing, anti-American teachers who teach victimization. Clean-up those unions putting adult molesters in rubber rooms with life-time pay and benefits and hold their plethora of stupidest teachers in high-esteem. Good teachers want no part of that. Empower parents – bring on the vouchers.

It seems our black President and his black Czar prefer to keep blacks, Hispanics, and the poor on the government plantation and voting for more government.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

  1. Remember the good old days when one wen to school to gain knowledge? History. Science. Math.

I guess that’s a racist concept. The new normal: School is to improve self-esteem. If someone gets a lower grade, that will damage his self-esteem. So give everybody the same grade, even if we have to lower standards for some.

No wonder the United States lags behind third world countries in test scores.

  2. Few students are taught decent writing skills. Cursive writing is caput. Minorities cannot even articulate a decent sentence. Now with this the future only becomes more grim. Sad indeed.

  3. Racial profiling is bad! Except, of course, when it is for a good cause, such as getting even more “uninformed” voters. Then it is fair, reasonable and based on common sense. At least I think that must be the idea.

  4. Social engineering will always fail. They know that. It just makes them feel like they have contributed something useful while garnering votes. Of course it’s all bullshit because it is never measured for gain at the end. Defined results.

Was the juice worth the squeeze? Who knows and who cares? Results were never the point. I was just writing about that very thing…

  5. Imagine if you will, some cracker from Mississippi saying, “Blacks and Hispanics are just not as smart as whites and Asians. You can’t change that. It’s just how it is. Let’s just lower the bar for them, because they are incapable of doing any more.” Good God! The hew and cry of racism would echo off of the moon.

How would you like to be an African American or Hispanic kid? You are not only being told you are inferior, there are people actually getting paid to give you a break because of your inferiority, which is directly based on the color of your skin. The message is, “You can’t compete. You are not capable.”

Years ago, the late great African American tennis star Arthur Ashe was asked about a rule that required a minimum SAT score for a Freshman to play collegiate sports. As a black athlete, Ashe was expected to bemoan that there was any minimum. Instead, Ashe said, “I’m very disappointed. They should have made the score higher.” Ashe figured that black kids could do better on the tests if they were motivated to do so. Ashe couldn’t understand why a black kid should have lower expectations than anyone else.

This is a tragedy. It is also extremely typical of Leftists. They tell minorities that they are friends of the minorities. But they are racists. Conservatives will be outraged by this. We can’t see why anyone would tell anyone of any race that they can’t achieve. We not only know that everyone has God-given rights, but also that everyone has God-given gifts and that we are are equal in our potential to use those gifts no matter what color our skin happens to be. We look at blacks and Hispanics failing in schools and we blame the quality of the schools and would like to do something about that, because we believe the kids could achieve if given the opportunity. Liberals think the schools are just fine. It’s the black kids and the Hispanic kids who are flawed. Who is the racist?

  6. At this point why do we even have schools if we are just fudging the numbers to make everyone appear as successful? Instead of ensuring our children get educated we are actually setting them up for failure when they hit the real world.

  7. For as long as I can recall, we in education have had special measures to give blacks and Hispanics a leg up. So far, the benefits of ANY of these expensive programs have been marginal — and insignificant as far as classroom teachers are concerned.

      1. Working with homeschoolers is not lucrative. But I sleep at night because I know that education and learning are taking place.

That said, I am fighting an uphill battle. Because post-secondary institutions are no longer maintaining viable standards, fewer and fewer homeschool parents see any point in enrolling their children in my courses. Class size is way down — and so is my income as tuition is charged per student per course.

On a regular basis, I see average students who have graduated from my courses being designated as honors level students by colleges. The farce is ongoing — and damned expensive. A rip off, really.

I do have some private-tutoring clientele — mostly Asian. These families desire high standards.

  8. Since when did dumber become better? Since whenever they decided to use public school to re-engineer our society, I reckon. Decades of re-engineering are finally culminating into real results, right before our eyes. Interesting times!

  9. Thanks so much for the link Jim. Isn’t this just a miserably foul message to send to our children. Message to AOW – just know how valuable you are. How long you can keep it up, I don’t know but our country is better for you.
