9/11 _ Too Many Have Forgotten

Today is the twelfth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New york City and the Pentagon and a failed attempt on the White House. More than 3000 innocent people died that day. Today is also the one year anniversary of the terrorist attack on a “diplomatic” mission and CIA outpost in Benghazi, Libya, that took the lives of four Americans, including our Ambassador to Libya.

On the tenth anniversary of the (/11 attacks, I wrote a post titled Lest We Forget _ September 11, 2001, in which I wrote:

The attacks of 9/11 were much more than attacks on the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon and a failed attempt to hit the White House. What occurred on 9/11 was nothing less than an attack on the idea of America. It is something we should all take personally. Reliving the events through these videos helps us to understand on a personal level.

As A Conservative Teacher explains in his article, the attacks are not something that occurred ten years ago and are now a part of history. We are still living the history of 9/11. The history that started that days is not over yet. America changed on 9/11/01. Laws changed to “improve” our security but at the price of some of our liberties. Our perception of the world we live in changed. Our attitude toward the followers of Islam changed. We are still fighting a war in Afghanistan and around the world ten years later. The history is still being written and continues to affect each and every one of us personally.

We must never forget what happened on 9/11. Our children must be taught the importance of that day. We must pledge that we will never allow terrorism to destroy the American dream nor will we allow well-meaning statists to destroy it either.

It seems to me that too many people have forgotten the significance of what happened on 9/11/2001. The reference to videos in the above quote is to a five part video series documenting the events of that day called   In Memoriam – New York City, 9/11/01 (2002). All but the first video have been taken down from You Tube.  Apparently no longer thought to be important. Yesterday, the eve of the 9/1 anniversaries, our good friend, Steve Dennis, of the America’s Watchtower blog, Steve put up a post in which he expressed his anger that so many of our leaders have seemingly forgotten the significance of what happened that day 12 years ago and who was responsible for those attacks:

In the days and years following the September 11th attacks we have been told that the extremists hate America because of our liberty and our freedom, and our response to this was the PATRIOT Act, the NSA spying program, warrantless wiretaps, and watching our fourth amendment rights violated on a daily basis by the TSA so in that regard you have to say “mission accomplished.”

As we continue the slow creep from a soft police state into a hard police state in the name of security I have to believe that we have forgotten what it means to be truly free. On this September 11th we are watching our government support those who attacked us on this day and we have given up essential liberty for a little perceived safety. If this does not represent the fact that we have forgotten what happened on this day, or who the enemy is, I do not know what will.

Steve is right, isn’t he? Two things happened yesterday, the eve of the 9/11  attacks. that drive Steve’s point home.

Last night our President, Barack Hussein Obama, addressed the nation to make his case for attacking Syria in response to the Assad regime’s supposed use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians. We are supposed to take his word that it was the Assad government that used the chemical weapons. This from a man who lies every time he steps in front of a microphone, This from a man who has since the day he first took office, has bent over backwards to support the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies, al Qaeda. Not once during his discourse did he make reference to Muslim extremists or Islamic extremists. As always, he could only bring himself to use the word “extremists”. He did make a fleeting reference to al Qaeda (the principle group trying to take down the Assad regime). And, he did say he agreed that the US should not get involved on a long-term in what is a sectarian conflict. I’m sorry. But, what percentage of the dumbed-down Americans have any idea of what a sectarian conflict is? Oh! Did anyone else catch what our President and one time associate professor of Constitutional Law said about the United States of America? He called the United States of America a constitutional “democracy”. He apparently doesn;t know the difference between a republic and a democracy. He apparently didn’t learn at Harvard the word “democracy” is nowhere to be found in any of our founding documents.

The other thing that happened yesterday on the eve of the 9/11 attacks just plan makes me sick.  Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who serves as chairman of the National Constitution Center, is to present former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with the group’s 2013 Liberty Medal in Philadelphia. That is an insult to all Americans. And that by a man who is a wannabe GOP candidate to be our President in 20016. _  Read more at Freedom By The Way.

Below I have posted the one remaining video from the series,  In Memoriam – New York City, 9/11/01 (2002). I suggest to you, my dear friends back there in the States, that you might want to down-load this video and attach it to e-mails that you could send to people you think need to be reminded of what the significance of 9/11 is and who our enemy is. I’m thinking of people like Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hilary Clinton, John Kerry, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and every Democrat and Republican politician in Washington who supports President Obama’s desire to attack Syria in support of the al Qaeda affiliated rebels.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

  1. The chemical weapons issue is a red herring, a side-show; despite the lies emanating from our president, war is the name and regime-change is the game. The Russians were absolutely correct in balancing demands that Syria turn over chemical weapons with demands the US foreswear the use of force against Syria — and I hope he adds “and cessation of American military assistance to the forces trying to topple Assad.” Anything else would make Putin a collaborator with our own interventionists. Aint’ gonna happen.
I can hardly bear to think of those people dying in the World Trade Center towers; it just breaks me up. The terror. That is what those bastards gave us and they are who Obama is supporting in Syria.

  2. I pulled out all the stops yesterday in the 9/11 lesson plan, presented yesterday because Tuesdays I have a class in American Government.

Designating today as a day of service [spit] infuriates me — and I said so in strong words in my class.

BTW, the above link is not to my own blog; I have a different 9/11 post there.

      1. Long ago, I decided that I must not be a part of the political correctness scenario. I’ve resigned from two teaching positions for that reason. I have taken financial hits because of my stance, but I sleep at night!

  3. “We must pledge that we will never allow terrorism to destroy the American dream nor will we allow well-meaning statists to destroy it either…” AMEN, COF.

And Obama (like all progressives) much prefer a democracy to a republic because the “individual” is not important.

  4. Your article reminded me that today is the 12th anniversary of 9/11. It triggered for me how I react to tragic events like that and what I carry away from them. I’m gonna go write about that now…

    Aside:
I answered your question asked about my ‘Cost of the Great Recession’ article. It took me about 5 revisions before I got the answer right… but it’s there now.

  5. Thank you Jim for this post. Its good to realize that there are people who still remember and who want to remind everyone. Many who were there and those who lost close ones wonder. For 12 years, every year, I relive that day from the moment I woke up at 5:30 am. I was there, watching every stage from across the river. For 12 years, that day minute by minute is etched in my mind – thoughts, action, emotions. About now, 3:30pm, we were receiving the people evacuated from lower Manhattan who were told to cross over by foot over the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges with no explanations as to what to do next. Please keep the reminders and remember the enemies, the obvious and the hidden.

  6. “This from a man who lies every time he steps in front of a microphone…”

The guy is positively Clintonian. Bill Clinton could lie better than anybody I ever saw, but Obama comes in as a close second. However, we have to give Barry a bit of a break. Just when is the teleprompter giving him misleading information, making him look like a liar? You never can tell.

    1. I think it’s a toss up as to which was the better liar, but you may be right. Willy was slick. Whoever writes Obama’s teleprompter speeches always makes sure that the truth never comes out of Obama’s mouth.

  7. Thank you so much for the link, the quote, and the kind words Jim! Great post! I missed Obama calling America a “constitutional democracy” great catch there, he simply does not know, or doesn’t want to admit, there is a difference between the two.
I wanted to mention Hillary receiving the Liberty Medal from Jeb Bush but forgot, thanks for reminding me, what a joke!
We must remember what happened that day even if our elected officials wish to forget it.
