Will Americans ever grow tired of “it”?

Over the years, I’ve been told that I am full of “It” countless times. I never believed them, of course, but on that subject I may be a tad biased. Many people have their own biases about “it”. They may speak of the “it” of chickens or bulls but never of the “it” of roosters or cows. “It” has been apart of mankind’s life since the beginning of time, however, the more civilized mankind has become, the more efficient he has become in the production of “it”. Hollywood would have us believe that it was Forrest Gump who first said, “it happens”. Whoever coined the phrase was spot on. “It” does happen with inordinate frequency. One thing we know for sure about “it” comes to us from the laws of physics. “It” always runs down-hill.

Although anyone is capable of producing “it” and shoveling “it” in great quantities, the most prodigious and consistent producers and shovelers of “it” are politicians. Every time they open their mouths “it” comes out. They write laws that are full of “it” and then turn them over to bureaucrats,  who then write regulations that multiply “it” a hundred fold. They then open the flood gates and “it” starts rolling down-hill. Politicians don’t like “it” for themselves. So, they write other laws protecting them from the “it” they produce for the rest of us.

In America’s history, there have been many president who were full of “it”. Woodrow Wilson was full of “it”. FDR, JFK, and LBJ were full of “it”. Nixon was full of “it”. Then we had a peanut farmer who didn’t know whether he should do “it” or go blind. President Clinton was amazing. He could get “it” all over himself and still come out smelling like a rose. We had the Bushes who were well fertilized with “it”. And no, we have President Obama who is hell-bent on burying America in “it”.

We conservative/libertarians are disgusted with “it”. But not all americans feel the same way about “it”.

Those at the bottom of the economic ladder (bottom of the hill) Love “it”. They wallow in “it”. They derive their sustenance from “it”. For them, “it” is free and so they keep demanding more of “it”. Some of these people have lived in “it’ for generations. “It” is all they know.

At the top of the economic ladder, we have the crony capitalist and the super rich. They don’t mind “it” at all. They even pay their lobbyist to promote more of “it”. They even agree to pay more taxes if the politicians will produce and shovel more of “it”. They do this because they know that “it” doesn’t stick to them. While the rest of us become mired in “it” and dragged down by “it”, they know that they will get an ever bigger slice of the economic pie, because of “it”.

About eighty percent of Americans are caught in the middle of “it” all. You would think we would all be tired of “it” by now. But that is not the case.

A significant percentage of this group caught in the middle of “it” call themselves liberals or progressives. They think “it” is great! They think they are above “it” all. They are not. They think the politicians should produce more and more of “it” and keep piling “it” on the poor. They think “it’ is good for the poor. They do not realize that “it” is what keeps poor people poor. Besides, they really believe “it” is free. That the government pays for “it”. They do not understand that all tax paying Americans are slipping deeper into to “it”, because the taxpayers are the ones paying for “it’.

A large part of the working class Americans do complain about “it”. They say they are tired of “it’ and they want “it’ to stop. Yet, they keep electing the same politicians over and over again who are responsible for all of “it’. For some reason, they can not see the cause and effect of “it”.

You and I, the conservative/libertarians, are very much tired of “it”. But, until or unless the rest of our fellow Americans decide they have had enough of “it”, we have no choice but to learn to live with “it”.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

  1. I must be getting slow in my old age. I was halfway through the post before I realized what you were talking about. Great post, Jim.

  2. Great stuff Jim. keep IT coming. And how long before Obama and Valerie appoint a Scatology Czar? One person to promote efficient shoveling and talking it. Unfortunately most Americans couldn’t give two shits about this.

  3. Jim, I think you’ve offended the IT profession. You may even get some hate mail from Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs.

As far as learning to live with “it”, I must refer you to Howard Beale of Network fame.

“I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

    Repeat as often as necessary.

    1. I live a sheltered life here in Venezuela. I didn’t know who Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs were until I Googled the name. Heck, they don’t need to go to such extremes looking for dirty jobs. The dirty work is being done every day in Washington; D.C.

“I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

That is not why I came here 21+ years ago; but it is one of the reasons that keeps me here.
