Putin: The Standard Bearer For Judeo-Christian Values?

Selwyn Duke wrote a thought-provoking article a while back that I encourage you to read. Ironically, he makes the case that, after 100 years of effort, the Marxist have successfully debauched the Judeo-Christian civilizations of the West, Vladimir Putin _ the product of what President Ronald Reagan called the Evil Empire _ is now the standard bearer of Judeo-Christian values.

There was a time when the USSR was the “evil empire, a godless Golgotha. But that was then. Now, in 2013-14, Putin has seen fit to say, in his December State of the Nation speech, “Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values. …Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”

This roughly coincided with Russia’s enactment of laws prohibiting homosexual propaganda and was a salvo against both the West’s Great Sexual Heresy and what enables it: moral relativism.

In another shot at relativism, Putin averred, “Society is now required…to accept without question the equality of good and evil, strange as it seems, concepts that are opposite in meaning.”

The Russian president then took aim at multiculturalism: “Today, many nations are revising their moral values and ethical norms, eroding ethnic traditions and differences between peoples and cultures.”

And now we’re seeing the release of Russian Culture War 2.0. In a document called “Foundations of the State Cultural Policy,” the Kremlin is doubling down and writes, “Russia must be viewed as a unique and original civilization that cannot be reduced to ‘East’ or ‘West.’ …A concise way of formulating this stand would be, ‘Russia is not Europe.’” The document goes on to state that Russia rejects “such principles as multiculturalism and tolerance” and “projects imposing alien values on society.”

No, this is not your grandfather’s Russia.

Selwyn Duke has a theory that Putin sees an opportunity for grandeur for himself and Russia by portraying himself as the new Charlemagne:

There’s an unsatisfied market for Christendom’s standard bearer, and Putin perceives an opportunity to exploit it. China won’t do it, Africa can’t, South America wouldn’t and couldn’t. But just as the original Vladimir the Great Christianized the Kievan Rus’, just as Charlemagne forged and helped Christianize modern Europe, Putin has a chance to lift the cross — and himself — high.

And the West is a gift that keeps on giving insofar as this goes. Our cultural Marxists are on the march, smell blood and will not stop. They will continue spending us into insolvency, perverting us into prone position, relativizing us into risibility and “immigrationizing” us into irrelevance. Even now, not satisfied with placing another great nail in marriage’s coffin, our militant secularists are making moves tolegitimize pedophilia and bestiality. It’s onward Luciferian soldiers.

And for Putin, it’s onward Christian soldier. As our degradation advances, Russia’s star can rise commensurately. Putin knows the West is in decline. He sees the demographic trends, that the US is transforming into a Third World/Hispanic nation and Western Europe into a Third World/Muslim continent. He knows that if there is another superpower in the near future, it will be Russia or China. And he knows what card he has to play to win this game.

Putin, who is most likely an atheist, is using Christian values as a foreign policy tool against the now decadent West:

Then consider foreign relations. The USSR used to jockey for world influence with us; whereas before they had to market Marxism, however, now they can peddle purity. Standing against decadent Western secular-imperialism can win Russia many friends in Africa and even the Middle East, and most of the Far East will go with the dominant power.

We like to believe that we won the cold war when the Soviet Union collapsed in December of 1991. But, did we? When Nikita Khrushchev told Western ambassadors at a reception at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November 18, 1956, “We will bury you”, I doubt he believed it would come about because the West accepted Socialism and Russia accepted Christianity.

I don’t pretend to know what Putin’s goals are for Russia or if he will achieve them; but, it does appear the Khrushchev is getting his wish.

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

  1. Nature abhors a vacuum. The West (and the US) are now too weak to lead. Into the vacuum steps ol’ Vlad. It’s called “leading from the front” which is the opposite of our Dear Leader’s policy.

  2. good commentary — but I would say Putin does believe in God, and he also sees Russian Orthodoxy as a way to keep that vast nation together. The Tsars and the priests were as one in the old days and the church even served Stalin when Stalin demanded it and the country was in jeopardy in wwii. Edgar Cayce’s last vision was of a devastated world in which Russia was leading a spiritual rebirth of the survivors. Strange vision since it happened when Stalin was at his most brutal and powerful.

    1. It will be very interesting to see how his spiritual leadership worksout. I believe he and his China friends have their eyes firmly set on Eurasia. How will his spiritual leadership play there? Different game _ different tactics?

  3. Keep on mind, the Muslims are nipping at his heels. The news does not make it here, never the less, the Christians have lead a placid life compared to the Muslims. He doesn’t want to see the rise of the Ottoman Empire at his doorstep. Neither does China who are having their own issue with them. They will take Christians happily.

  4. Imagine the West, Russia and China having in their possession a weapon and a technology capable of turning the radical Islamist agenda fomenting- supporting Saudi and Iranian desert kingdoms into glass if they refused to stop their shit? Imagine if we had the resources and technologies to find and incinerate the radical Islamist bandits raping and killing Christians in places like Nigeria these many years now. Gee that sure sounds like science fiction. After all we can’t find the Benghazi terrorists after they spend lazy afternoons sipping tea with western journalists. And if we could and did do these things any survivors wouldn’t like us any more, a guilt we couldn’t live with, so it’s best we wait for them to overrun us.

  5. I have always believed that Putin will take advantage of any opportunity whenever it presents itself. I don’t believe Russia is in any kind of long term ascendency. Economically, all they have is natural gas and oil, and the world is discovering more and more fossil fuel energy. The Russian reserves will become less important over time. That is why Putin is making his moves now. He understands that after a while, the Western countries will wake up and put him out of business in the energy markets.

As far as Putin becoming a disciple of Christ, most of the world knows better. You cannot fool all the people all the time.

That’s the way I am thinking.

  6. I hate to say I agree with anything Putin says because my leftwing commenters will accuse me and anybody else who even breathes that as PUTIN LOVERS..”YOU MUST LOVE COMMUNISM.” Seriously, they’re THAT odd.
Having said that: I don’t give a darn WHAT those commenters say and I think Putin is right on multiculturalism and some of the other things.
And yes, he does recognize what we all see; America’s on the decline, seriously today because of Obama and HOlder, Reid and Pelosi, and Putin’s smart enough to jump in.

I know there have been many Russian Christians for years, even during the Iron Curtain, kept well hidden underground, and we can only hope this will have some influence on Putin.
The really good thing about him is he will fight militant islam….he will at least call it for what it IS, which is going some toward progress.
    Great post. . Z
