The Emirates and Egypt Attack Islamist Forces in Libya _ A Positive Step?

It was about the time that President Obama announced his red line in the sands of Syria that Asylum Watch did a piece promoting the idea that America should stop fighting the proxy wars in the Middle East at the behest of its “partners” in the region; i.e., Saudi Arabia, the Arab Emirates, the Gulf State, and etc. The argument was that the United States had been providing arms, aircraft, and training to the militaries of its “partners for decades and it was high time they took on the responsibility of resolving regional issues themselves. In other words, we should let Muslim nations solve the problems between Muslim nations.

Well, this past Saturday, Reuters report that unidentified aircraft had attacked positions of armed militia in Libya.

Local channel al-Nabaa said the planes had attacked four positions of the Operation Dawn, an umbrella of Islamist-leaning forces from Misrata which has been trying to expel brigades from Zintan, also located in western Libya.

Yesterday the mystery was solved when as the NYT reports that it was the United Arab Emirates with the aid of Egypt that carried out the attacks:

{U.A.E. and Egypt} “have secretly teamed up to launch airstrikes against Islamist-allied militias battling for control of Tripoli, Libya, four senior American officials said, in a major escalation between the supporters and opponents of political Islam.”

So, this should be seen as a good thing, right? Well, the Obama administration doesn’t see it that way. You see, the U.A.E. and Egypt had the audacity to take this action to try to save Tripoli without asking Mr. Obama’s permission or even advising him of their intentions. I’m sure they were just being polite and didn’t want to disturb Mr. Obama while he was playing golf. Our friend, Bunkerville, as usual, is all over this story.

It took two foreign sources to demonstrate this inane U.S. policy in Libya. First we have the fall of Tripoli. Of course to these animal primitives Islamic whatever. Obama was determined for the Muslim Brotherhood come into power. But it now gets worse. We do nothing. So UAE and Egypt take it upon themselves to try to rid Libya of these terrorists because they are bright enough to figure out they are coming their way next and wait, don’t we want the advancement of ISIS to stop? So pick up the next story  in which the U.S. and Europe condemns “outside interference”. Try and make sense of this one. Was it because Lurch was not told or involved?

{…}

The United States and European allies have issued a warning on Libya, condemning the ‘escalation’ in violence there while cautioning against outside meddling. The group of nations called for an immediate ceasefire.

The statement, signed by the governments of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, warned that outside interference in Libya would worsen divisions and slow down any hope of a democratic transition in the country. (Chuckle time.)

The message from the Obama administration and its NATO allies is clear: ” We made that mess. It’s our mess and we like it just the way it is. How dare you (U.A.E and Egypt) to think you can just step in and try to clean up the mess we worked so hard to create?”

Folks, isn’t it time that the US admits that its Middle East policies, which were supported and encouraged by many of its regional partners, have been a disaster. We and our partners have created a number of Frankenstein monsters. Isn’t it time to back off and encourage our partners: Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E. the Gulf States, and Egypt to use all those arms and training we provided to solve their own regional problems?

Well, that’s what I’m thinking. What are your thoughts?

  1. Thanks Jim for the shout out. This has to be the most bizarre story of the day. Except that we have thrown Egypt under the bus and refused them the help that we requested and PROMISED. Thus they have now teamed up with Russia to help them out. I am now sure these are no ignorant moves, but planned to dimmish us in the best way that they know how.

  2. And the band plays on in the White House. Egypt and the UAE threaten to upend Obama’s planned radical Islamic takeover and control of Libya. But on the bright side his powder puff war strategy in Iraq shows no signs of dislodging his ISIS brethren.
